I have loki reliably putting his front feet on a variety of books and other flat objects. We have also added duration.
Now I want to get him to spin his hind end around while keeping his front feet on the pad. In all the videos I see the person just sort of walks around ina circle facing the dog and the dog spins to keep facing the person.
This isn't happening, he will turn his head to watch me, but his rear end stays in one place.
I was minutes away from posting for info on touch pads myself to funny. I may not be much help and the way I got my dog to do it is probably wrong. I had my dog in heel standing on the touch pad and I walked in a counter clockwise so she had to go around.
Then with her facing me I lured her with treats, She picked it up quick and I can now stand in front and go around and she follows either direction.
I want to know when to demand proper position after I have her go to the touch pad I'll start another post and hopefully we can get our answers.
I am using the touchpad as a stepping stone to heeling.
After a few sessions working on trying to get him to move with me while on my left side, it became apparent he has no idea that he has a rear end and would up twirling around and prancing like a spaz
I have switched to using a clicker for this because I feel I can be more precise in marking slight movements.
This time I stood at his side to try to gently nudge him to move sideways and it seemed to help a little bit.
I also had a totally duh moment, I have been working with him on my right side instead of my left. I am left handed and I did this without thinking
Since this dog is easily confused I think I will continue with him on my right. We aren't doing this for any kind of trial so it doesn't really matter.
I did screw up and tell you the wrong direction not counter clockwise I meant clockwise at least with the dog in heel on the left. But in your case with your dog on the right side its kinda the same.
What are the chances of that LOL.
I recommend the focused heeling DVD I wish I had it before I started. I taught my dog to heel before coming upon this site, I read and researched different articles and combined different techniques.
The reason I bought the DVD was in hopes to fix some thing I didn't know how to fix and could not find on the net.
In the first 5 minutes it talks about forging ,crabbing, laging I knew that's what I taught my dog to do. Any ways if I had this DVD in the beginning I could have avoided all the things I had to try and fix.
Hey Jennifer, if you hold a piece of string cheese or hotdog will Loki nibble at it while he's moving?
It worked! I was able to put the hot dog in my fist and have him nibble it as we moved, we managed to get half a rotation before he realized he was twirling.
