I was working on tricks the other day with Kipp and Kenzi. Missy got a bit jealous and came and planted herself at my feet each time I say "yes" (hey, I want that reward, too!!!). Then she grabs the object I was working on getting Kipp to pick up. So I did an impromptu session with her and within about 5 minutes, the whole idea was really clicking with her.
This was a trick I'd tried to teach her a year ago, but she stressed out and didn't quite get it (she wants so much to please that she gets stressed if she doesn't understand) but I guess the sibling rivalry did the trick...
It's not technically new since we've worked on it before so I can't use it for the contest but I'm going to get a video and upload it sometime because I love seeing my now senior girl continue to learn and progress.
Barbara....Yay for hup! It is a fun thing to teach, did you start in the hallway?
What I used was a picnic table bench turned on its side. Falcon was kinda "up" when we went out to train; I had the treat bag and began the session with "are your ready? are you ready?" so he knew goodies were coming. I bent over to lay the picnic bench on its side, and before I had stood up completely he had already jumped over it!!! LOL! We worked on that for a bit then I got brave and turned the picnic table on its side to see how he would do and he was up and over like he had been doing it daily! I think my dog likes hup! Now to begin the retrieving part...
