I would not use human shampoo on dogs. It makes their fur fall out and their skin really dry. It's the wrong PH.
Has anyone ever experienced this happening to their dog? My last dog swam every single day during the summer, and my new puppy swam everyday from when I brought her home till Oct 1st. Getting in the pool that often dries my skin out but neither one of them have ever had a problem with dry skin. I bathe them 2-3 times a week during the summer because of the chlorine and use regular shampoo, sometime baby shampoo if I remember to buy it, but otherwise whatever is in the shower.
I have always heard not to over bathe dogs and only use doggy shampoo but I never have. Even in the winter I bathe my dog once a week but never more than 10 days apart. Their coats have always been shiny, and they never have dry skin.
I could be wrong but I believe if you feed them right then most of the other stuff takes care of itself.

The over bathing thing is a myth. Reality is if you use a quality shampoo and conditioner you can bathe your dog every day with very little effect. My dog for about six months took a bath every single day (I was having allergy issues.)
Usually about every 4 - 5 months I have a client come in with horrid skin caused by regular use of human shampoo.

I can recommend both of these vendors, especially if you have multiple dogs and want to buy larger sizes of shampoo/conditioner products. (although I think they also sell smaller sizes too.)
