My mom was talking with somoene who came into her work who was a breeder. I am often a skeptic as she is not so relieable. Has anyone ever heard of these? Are they another knock off science experiment of American Bullies. Here's what I found I'm hoping this is just a bad pic this dog seems to have no muscle- http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/oldeenglishbulldogge.htm
I'm not sure about these dogs with that spelling, but there was an earlier English Bulldog that has kinda morphed into todays bulldogs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulldog
If you look at the history of Bulldogs, British Bulldogs, or English Bulldogs you'll see.

These guys are gaining popularity in my area. The basic idea is a english bull dog temperament without all the severe health issues and physical limitations. So the breed founder came up with the idea of the classical bulldog look without all the aggression and then went about trying to do it.
The few I have met were very impressive looking dogs. Pretty indifferent to the environment they were in and fairly obedient. They do on the whole seem healthier than the usual watermelon shaped english bulldog I see.
Connie-that's what threw me as I remember reading the history of the Am Staff and Pitts and this extinct dog's name was metnioned (this was in the 80's so I couldn't be certain if I was remembering correctly). Melissa-this breeder was telling my mom that there were none of the birth complications the English's have. They aren't registered by the UKC either. They seem like a smaller version of the American Bulldog. I really don't understand the need to recreate or start new breeds. Why not work on the lines they already have? *disclaimer*I'm not a breeder so this may be a bit niave or simple.

You can't fix what's irreparably broken. English bulldogs have a hard time naturally breeding and free whelping. They are also extremely prone to temperature intolerance, joint issues, eye problems, skin issues, and just about every other immune and structural problem in dogs. What do you do when the entire gene pool is effected except either open the stud book or scrap the idea and start something new?
There will always be a nitch for new breeds as society changes. There's nothing wrong with that. It just is what it is. Some dogs where their purpose is long since dead will be maintained by some for preservation purposes, some will fade into non existence like the St John's dog, and new breeds will crop up on the scene.
