I'm very fond of the idea of moving to Greenland, Finland, or Sweden. My other thought is New Zealand or India.
Betty, you're right Port Townsend is a weird little savannah next to a rainforest. I loved going there in the spring/summertime when the wild rhodies were all in bloom. Sequim would be the desert of the area. It even has cacti in a few spots.
Son was in a 2 yr. rehab in Port Townsend Washington. It's a "dry slot" for the weather -way less rain and clouds than Seattle. We visited about 6 times and only saw one rainy day and 0 snow. Beautiful, a hip culture, dogs in town, in stores on the ferry. California but not so many people. North but not arctic. Great restaurants, some cheap. " Officer and a Gentleman " was filmed there. An endless beach for dog walking.
If you are young and have itchy feet it would be a cool place to check out.
The only trouble with PT, is it's largely a retirement community. Not a lot for the younger sect, if they are not interested in the type of entertainment provided by the mountains. The elk herd that passes through is pretty cool though.
