I had registered for this forum a long time ago and forgot about it until I tried to re-register. I have a 5yr old spayed GSD. She's 85# with german show bloodlines. She has received some professional personal protection training and I have done some as well. A little background. Kasity has no problems with male dog's except for a few spats with a larger male gsd up the street. She will fight any female close to her own size and will dominate smaller females until they submit. Now about the deer. I live in the central U.P. of Michigan in a very rural area. She has an extreem chase instinct. During moderate weather if she is alone outside I keep her on a tether although she has pulled some 3" J-screws right out of a telephone pole before. She wouldn't bite anyone but she will chase joggers and bicyclists who pass out front. Off lead on a walk she won't chase anything except other animals especially deer. If she smells a deer even out of sight she will want to investigate. If I catch it early enough and command her to foos, she will heal and we are o.k. If she see's a deer it's off to the races. She stays close and always comes back within 5 minutes or so but I don't want her to chase deer and there are some wolves around here from time to time. The wolves have taken about a half dozen pets in the area over the last few years. We actually saw a pack on a walk. Kasity stopped in her tracks and while facing the wolves began to walk backwards. I didn't realize they were wolves until I saw her actions. The gray's started walking towards us (they didn't see me yet) and I saw 2 adults walking towards us and 5 or 6 smaller ones a little further off. As soon as they saw me they all took off into the woods and that was the last of it. Anyway I'm off topic but because of occasional wolves and just basic obedience I don't want her to chase deer. When she needs work on the obedience end I will walk her on lead with a pronged collar she acts just like a proper lady. I would just like to break her from chasing anything off lead. Thanks for your input.
