Is that bark on command (guessing from the "auf")?
She's already trained to bark on command with Gib Laut, so now we're adding the guarding exercise with the additional command of Pass auf.
Right now we're working on the guard in the open. Once she has the idea down, we'll move into guarding in the blind.
Once she's guarding in the blind reliably and cleanly, we'll begin training her to run the blinds with the Voran command, WITHOUT a helper in the blind. I've decided with her temperament, to teach the blind search as an obedience exercise, separate from bitework, until she does both tasks reliably.
Then we'll chain the two together, and slowly fade out the Pass Auf command in the blind.
Work on the guard from yesterday (Note that she isn't right up to the helper yet. We're starting about two feet back to keep her off the sleeve, and slowly moving in and she realizes it's the barking that we're looking for, not worrying or touching the helper.)

Being new I am still catching up on my leerburg dvd's. Listened to the puppy dvd, pack structure and now basic dog obedience. She went through 4 wks of puppy k. I found they were inline with pack structure, but some of what they do is different than the dvd's, puppy k is something the vets pushed us to do, they seem to want to get them out, let them get used to puppys and people. Shadow is 5 months and is shy around people. Please anyone give me your thoughts on this.
I have been working on walking, sit, down, stay. She doesn't like the stay too much. Forgive me but I don't know the place command. She does like to do marker training when I give the commands, I use the word "yes" and she loves treats. I would like to get her to understand all that we are working on. I will be glad to gain new things for her as we go. Trying to work through the nipping with sit and down, for now its working.I believe I will be slow in this challenge, maybe it can help any newbees to come along Thanks Lisa

Lisa, you might want to cut/paste your question on a new thread; I think you will get more input. However, here are my thoughts.
You've only had this pup for about 2 months, correct? And it is a Siberian Husky if I remember. Eight weeks is a very short time to expect a new pup to understand lots of new commands as well as bond with a new family and all the excitement of a puppy class - especially if she is shy around people. I understand why the vet might have suggested this, however, perhaps just letting her get to know you and your family and be exposed to new, calm situations without having to deal with new dogs and new people in a strange enviroment would suit her better. If she is shy around people, putting her around a lot of strangers could backfire and make her even more uncomfortable...
The "place" command is training your dog to go to her bed, a mat or something similar on command. We use Falcon's bed as his "place" (this is outside of his crate). It is helpful when people come over, he is underfoot, etc... to have somewhere to send him that is not construed as "punitive" at all.
Expecting too much "stay" out of a 5 month old you've only had 8 weeks might be premature. EVERYTHING should be fun and light right now while this pup is getting used to all the changes in her life. Marker training is perfect for this, btw!
I know you want her to understand all you are working on, but it might be that you are working on too much too soon. Slow down, have fun and take it easy! This stage goes quickly so enjoy her as a pup!
Use distractions and offer her a rag/toy when she is nipping. Give her something appropriate to put in her mouth other than your feet/hands.
Huskies needs lots of exercise (age appropriate) and running to burn off their energy. Do you think she is getting tired out enough when outside/playing?
I'm sorry if this is a bit disjointed... typing too fast tonight.

Thanks Barbara, I am long winded when writing my mind is 50 miles past what I am actually trying to say, which probably would have been best just to say, any training tips would be helpful. I will post this to another thread for conversation and it gets me to know eveyone. I am so glad for your thoughts. Everything you said is a relief and very helpful. My husband all along has been saying he wants to enjoy her as a puppy. I am the disciplined mom type

It has taken me awhile to decide what I am going to do with my dogs for our new years resolution but I think I will break it up per dog. Terra is my newest rescue and afraid of everything, especially when you raise your arm to say throw a ball or something. On the other hand she has been trying to sneek off her mat and when I correct her she mumbles at me. That has to stop. so for her, I am working on perfecting or retightening her mat command.
My cody I am going to begin extending his little agility course and get him out more in public and also give him some extra exercise. He has tons of energy.
My bindi is a dream dog. For her I think I will extend her touch command and use it in a way to try and give her a job at home. She is the best dog. She and Cody are rescues and she will do anything to please me. With all of my dogs I am going to try and incorporate my bike into our exercise together. Right now I just walk them and play the "come" game in the back yard, so they have to run from one end of the yard to the other.
Oh, another fun thing, my husband bought the dogs a dog puzzle and we will be working on that.
I am sorry I do not have a video camera. Cody is a dream dog to train, he loves to train and is happiest when training. I'd love to film him.
Thanks for the fun and great suggestions on training and the resolution challenge. Great work all you who have sent in videos. Love to watch them.

Sharon, I rely on my kids friends. Generally they use cell phones.
It takes them two seconds to have the clip up and running.
In Best Buy there was some little gizmo that looked cheap and was for putting videos on You Tube. Didn't think I could operate it -- but maybe you could!
