He has been limping on his rear left leg for about a month. He is fine on shorter walks, plays ball (though I have cut that out in the past few weeks). I took him to the vet, got xrays and he does not have arthritis. He tested positive for lyme but had no temperature. The doctor did not think that is where is limp is from and had no answer. Suggested restrict his walks and prescribed antibiotics for the lyme.
When he walks around the the apartment he limps on the leg. We go out and he shows no issues. Usually we do longer walks each night, about 2miles, but he starts to limp so I have stopped those.
He is a belgian malinois and athletic. He just turned 8.
I am not sure what to do next if the antibiotics don't work.
He should be better soon from the antibiotics, 3-5 days, but the joint
affected may "flare" again different times in the future. Early treatment is most effective. It's easy to miss the earliest signs in many dogs, they are just a little quieter than usual.
With any luck he will be just fine.
It's been a week on the meds. He is still limping. He can go for walks and was running like a nut in the snow (I should not have encouraged that).
After he has laid down for a while he gets up and really favors the leg for a few minutes. As we go out he stops limping.
I move his paw and leg around, I can't tell if anything is wrong and he does not complain when I do it.
