Betty asked in the other thread about needles and darning. I use 4 needles when I make socks - sock is on 3 and I knit onto the 4th needle. I know there are a few other methods - including using 2 circular needles - I've just always done the this way because that was the way I learned.
As for darning, it's part of knitting socks But with a tightly spun yarn with added nylon the socks usually wear really well. I have socks that I've worn for 3 or 4 years now and they're still fine. A few different sock yarns really do just about "wear like iron"
How does knitting compare in difficulty with crocheting?
My mother must have tried to teach me to crochet innumerable times, but I never really picked it up (too many holes and I could never seem to keep the tension right). I sort of always assumed crocheting would be easier just because their were fewer needles to keep track of...
I've always meant to try again someday, but I think I tend to like the finished knitted products better.
I do top down, too. I tried knitting a pair of toe up socks - couldn't resist the pattern ( Guided By Love ) but never finished them because it just felt weird knitting toe up.
Well, even though it is mostly for Dr. Betty, I'm gonna' look too!!! Nanner, nanner, nannerrrr!!! (Thanks Meredith!) Maybe we can have a sock knitting video contest!!! LOL! JUST KIDDING!!!!
