I am having trouble with my dog mouthing the dumbell and dowels. If she is still, she will hold anything in her mouth without mouthing it. Once she retrieves it from any distance, then it is non-stop mouthing.
I have tried knocking it out of her mouth, pulling it out with a string, holding her muzzle until still, popping under the chin, a halti to hold it. The less stress involved, the more likely to hold still. Just looking for other options...
Are you using wooden items? If so, have you considered using PVC pipe instead of dowels to train? I purchased the LB floating, plastic dumbbell to begin training Falcon because he can be chewy = but he does not like mouthing plastic.
