When I play fetch with the dog, he brings his kong back to me everytime and sits right infront of me, and its perfect.. but the problem I'm having is getting him to out it into my hands. When I reach towards his mouth to place my hands on the kong, he shakes his head back and forth so I cant touch it. He doesnt move his body away, just his head. I want to be able to reach down and take it from his mouth. So, I dont have to bend over to pick it up everytime.
Offer him something in return. Have a treat or another toy he likes, say "out" or what ever word you are going to use, offer the treat and catch what he drops (hopefully).
I echo Barbara....It you get into a tug-a-war with your dog over the kong it becomes a game and a battle you will mostly likely not win with grace.
Try what Barbara said using a less inviting toy and then after the dog has a clear understanding what you want you can induce the kong again after many many many repetitions.
