Here is my situation. I have adopted a 3 year old Male German Rottweiler, he is the best looking Rott I have ever seen...anyway here is my problem whenever you get close to him as in hugging him or petting him while standing over him... he gives off a low growl in warning, I have pushed him far to see if he would actually bite and he did not, thank god! He is like 106 pnds with a 25 inch neck and head, his growling just gets louder and some snarling... so what do you think this is? I think it's a fear problem myself, he has a very distrusting look in his eyes when he does this. I am afraid his last home was not a good one, but I can get no history on the dog or his owners.
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!
Hugging a dog while standing over him is not very different from mounting him. Your dog probably does not appreciate your dominating body language. Sounds like he's a fairly dominant pooch! I'll bet you get some good advice from this board on how to handle him!
