Ever since my dog was very small he has been allowed to have bones from one place that I was directed to for bones. She has good quality stuff, but they are parboiled. He has always been allowed to have a bone of some sort, knuckle, shank, dinosaur, most every day.
Again, as with everything else, the more I read here, the more I make changes. I have had concerns about him being bale to break off pieces of these bones, most fo the time they are small, but he has gotten slightly bigger pieces that have worried me.
On the other hand, I don't like the nylon type stuff because, being a rottweiler, he has some pretty strong chewing powere, and I don't like the idea of him ingesting that kind of stuff. He has some kong things, and he chews them sometimes, but the old rubber smell doesn't hold a candle to real bone.
I have just lately taken the knuckle bones, and right now he has a shank bone. The knuckles seem to be the worst for not holding up.
My question is, are there any good tempting kind of chews out there for strong chewers that I can totally replace his bones with? he doesn't chew all the time, but he is still young, and he has learned so well not to chew things in the house other than his toys, and I like to keep acceptable chewing items available for him.
Bully sticks are pretty good. I have also just started using these twin "hoofers". They last for days and days with Faroh (though he is only 5 months old). They are gross and smell however, they don't make a mess or crack teeth.
Find your local butcher and get leg bones sliced into 2in sections. My rottweilers like bully sticks also but they are expensive and with my dogs they don't last very long. 10 minutes is about average, where real bones will last all day for about 1/20th the cost.
Thanks everyone. We had bully sticks also, from the same place. That is true, about 10 minutes is tops, and he doesn't really chew the end, just eats it.
raw bones would be fine outside, but not inside on the floors or rugs. I will look into that, though, for outside.

When I have given my dogs bones in the past, I would lay a huge old sheet or something on the floor to cover it. That was where they were told to stay with the bones. If they wouldn't comply (rarely) I simply took the bones away.

My mal is a hard chewer. I like these chew toys. She is a smaller mal 45lbs and she has the donut goughnut (for smaller dogs). But there are also stick goughnuts.
