On top of his normal daily exercise I used the cavalletis every day and these worked really well put bulked him up and put muscle where there wasn't any visible before and his movement has really improved, I also nearly doubled his food intake and this time he didn't get really fat like usual just filled him out a little, until the last week where I took it back to his normal food amount and this just took the little extra he was carrying away and he looked good IMO. Those cavalletis are an awesome exercise they tire him out and built muscle like I never expected! Thanks Michael and Barbara!
Interesting. And congrats on the win!
I've been considering using cavaletti to improve Mitzi's gait and reach (the first time I've heard of it was in this thread).
Can you describe your cavaletti routine (haw many poles, how often you ran through the course, etc)?
what a cute pair. I would love to have a pool for my dogs. Hope this summer to get one. we do exercise on the treadmil and walk and I too allow them to dig and they run over 1/4 acre area. My little dog Cody is muscular and his back legs are really strong. Hope it all goes well with you and your dogs. sharon

I started my boy off on just 5 poles and run him through one way about 10 times for the first couple days then increased it to 8 poles for the same amount then 9 poles and roughly 15-20 depending on how he's doing and how much other exercise he's done for the day. It's really improved his gait he's always moved Ok but now his reach has really improved. He picked up R/UP BOB again tonight, same Grand Champion beat him again.
Thanks Brad. I'll try something similar. I have 3 weeks till my girls next conformation show and she is a bit on the thin side (for the judges' tastes!)
I also for the last two weeks before the show stuck him on a diet of Kangaroo with mince and tails plus kangaroo pre packaged BARF food as this apparently has very little fat but lots of protein to try and keep the muscle but take some of the extra weigh off him and it seemed to work. He took R/UP to the same dog the second night as well.
