How would one go about beginning to train a dog, for casual applications - not drugs, etc... to find/retrieve a specific scented article? (As in the video Ram posted several weeks ago showing his dog sniffing numerous handkerchiefs and then bringing the one with his scent on it?)
I picture handling the items with plastic gloves and / or tongs.
Rubbing the one item to be found on your face/arms to put your scent on the one item.
Placing them around a room.
Do you then mark/reward the dog when they sniff the right item and command "bring" or "fetch"?
You can see I'm at a loss here... Any advice?
I'm working on the next "contest" which will include tracking (fst/circle) AND the option of scent descrimination (might be using the wrong terminology here) for those who have to work inside.
