Just wanted to share something. It probably won't seem like much to most people but I was certainly pleased.
I had a guy come give an estimate for some carpet and initially I put Vashti in the bedroom with my son. After a few minutes I decided to go ahead and bring her out to see how she would react and possibly use it as an impromptu training session.
I leashed her up and brought her out and had her sit next to me. She gave a little growl and started to bark but I said uh huh and then asked her to "look" which she DID! I was able to keep her focus on me while he measured.
When we started to talk about the estimate she laid down at my feet. She was very well behaved. I was so pleased; which is why I declined his request to pet her. I didn't want to press my luck. I didn't know if it would change the game so to speak if he actually came towards her.
Bruno was 4 years old when I found this site and I had a lot to learn and a lot to undo. We worked hard on things and I was very happy with the progress we made. He taught me a lot!
To be able to start off on the right foot from the very beginning and see the results; even something as minute as just her being able to trust me and control herself in the presence of a stranger is very rewarding.
Congrats Lori! I see why you are so pleased! You were smart to "train" her in the security of her own home which added the distraction but not too much, and you also did GREAT no letting him pet her. Yeah!!
