I have a 5 month Irish setter female pup, house trained. Always does her business when we open the doors in the morning. A month back, I have noticed that she tends to urinate in her sleep. Could it be a weak bladder problem or some other medical problem. I dont trust vets. She drinks normal amnounts of water. Her urinating in sleep ocuurs in day as well as night time.
Are you absolutely sure that 1) it's urine, and 2) it's happening in her sleep?
Have you taken her to the vet? Did they check for a bladder infection? Not "trusting" vets is going to lead to some pretty nasty consequences if this dog has a bladder infection.
Hello Aaron,
She is not spayed. and it is definatley urine. and it does happen only during her sleep time. I have taken her to the vet, who has suggested that I perform urine analysis to rule out bladder issues. I also have a fear of vets due to some history of my earlier dogs death due to vet carelessness. I'm wating for the urine report.
Having her urine cultured was a good idea. I had a rescue pup many years ago that did this, she was treated for a bladder infection, after treatment the UTI returned. Further testing revealed she had ectopic ureters,it seems to be more common in females. Is this only happening in her crate?
Could be many reasons, always good to rule out infection..
She walks in and out of my bedroom and sleeps at night on the bed near my feet (i give in too easy where rules are concerened) and then she does the mess on the ned. she sleeps day time on a raised hammock like bed and sometimes she messes there too.
Mark,
I think what people are trying to tell you(well, I will speak for myself and say "What I am trying to tell you")is that she may not be "messing". She may very well have a medical condition which causes her to leak urine.
She should probably see a vet before assuming this is something behavioral.
