Hi all, I wanted to know for foot step tracking whether it is okay for the dog to see the track being made? I'm really knew to this so forgive me if its a newbish question
During the summer I would drive to the field where my club trains and i would always leave him in the car set the track and go get him. Now i wanted to introduce him to tracking in the snow but don't always have the truck. I wanted to start laying tracks on our walks since we pass by some opportune fields that are largely not walked on in the winter. Would there be any problem with having him down on the path while I lay the track?
With tracking you rely a lot on cues and a routine so that they know whats expected Rob. I don't think you really want to be too inconsistant with it, I would worry about it becoming just a sniff around time. No concentration on what he's supposed to be doing.
And yeah, the dogs can see you laying the track from the car a lot of the time, but its still cueing him with the flag and bait, etc.. so that he knows its time to track.

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. I've laid 2 tracks for Chula (just for fun), and I was thinking that it would be 'cheating' if she saw me lay the track.
