I was greeting my five year old black lab/boxer mix after coming home from work this morning, and as I was running my hands through his hair felt a slight bump near his hind quarters. My wife helped me out and we tried to get some pictures with his cooperation.
Just a quick update, the mark still isn't gone and has just "hardened" a bit - it really hasn't increased in size, just hardened. Call me a nervous Dad, I am - can't stand when anything happens to my little boy, but is this anything to worry about? I'm guessing it is just part of the healing process, similar to how I scab up with a cut or infection/bite. When I touch it, it does not seem to bother him and his energy level is the same. I should note we haven't changed his diet either, still on Raw meats.

I think this is a sign that it's healing. It is a scab. Within another week or so, the scab will just fall off. Don't pick it off. I'm pretty sure this is nothing to worry about. It could have been a bug bite, or even a pimple--infected hair or oil gland. As long as he's not bothering it, and you don't find more of them, I think everything's fine. Next time you find a little skin spot like this you could treat it like you would a similar small wound on yourself--clean it off with a bit of hydrogen peroxide and a dot of Neosporin cream.
