I just ordered two of Michael Ellis' DVD's. Training the Retrieve and the Focused Heeling DVD.
Pretty excited as I don't do Schutzhund anymore and I hope to put some AKC, yes I said AKC, titles on my young dog.
I am not a huge fan of the AKC so for me to go that route is a pretty big thing.. I just don't care for how they take so many working dogs and turn them into circle running machines.
I've got both of these DVDs and I can highly recommend them. I believe Michael Ellis's training methods are applicable in all disciplines, whether you do Schutzhund, one of the ringsports, AKC, some other venue, or you just want a well-trained, well-mannered companion.
I'm fairly new to performance competition with my dogs and chose to do so in AKC. I'm afraid I'm too old and don't have the right type of dogs to do anything that involves bitework, lol. But these DVDs are packed full of good, solid, basic, logical dog training information that can be applied across the board.
If you're planning on conformation titles, do NOT teach leach pressure as recommended in the heeling video.
You'll never be able to get correct gait in the show ring.
Thanks for the tip Aaron, but I don't get into that type of showing. So, no worries on the leash pressure aspect of the DVD. I just want to put a couple obedience titles on her through the AKC to show that she CAN get titles... well, if I am able anyway lol.
