Alright, my brother doesn't know anything about dog training so I'm helping him out with his 3 month old husky pup. I started her on the groundwork yesterday and so far she's hating the crate She'll get over it. shes getting plenty of exercise, plenty of potty breaks and plenty of water and her rations of food. she'll come along sometime.
Earlier today I got up, took the 3 month old (tiki is her name) out for potty (had to wake up at 4 a.m. and do it as well) and walked her around for a minute. Some food and some water and then back in her crate. Then I got calypso out, took her out for bathroom, a short walk around the yard, then food and drink and back in the crate. waited about 30 minutes then got them both out and took them for an hour long walk and a pretty brisk pace.
Why is it that my dog is totally fine around her when they're only 2 feet away (on opposite sides of me) and walking? Is walking together less threatening then just meet and greet? I only walked them both because I didn't want to take 2 really long walks.
Also, since I am taking over and helping my brother train tiki, I have a question. Should I just let her pull the leash (which she does like crazy (less so at the end of the walk when she was tired) or should there be corrections given? Maybe only let her have 6-12 inches so shes forced to walk by my side? Any time she was walking with a loose leash i marked and treated. My dog walked perfectly by my side the entire time (like always, yay for prong collars). I don't want to put a prong collar on a 3 month old puppy, seems too young for it.
Calypso is at my side laying down nicely as I write this, shes adjusted to her crate extremely fast (only took 2 days) and now she can go in there all night without making a sound. I'm just going to keep her tethered and let tiki stay in the crate a few more days. Hopefully she'll start to see that me (or my brother for that matter) is her leader. It seems like I'm making it crystal clear that I control everything about her world.

That which is allowed is trained. And no, I would not be correcting her on a behavior which has not been trained - that is a bit unfair.
If you are helping in the training of your brother's dog, this is going to need to include some training sessions on how you want her to behave while walking.
One reason we normally don't recommend adding another "pup to the mix" until after the first dog is trained and over two years old is due to the amount of time needed to get the puppy trained.
