I saw a situation today that did not involve my dog, but someone else's. I took my kids and stubby to the park today. Kids, dog and several other kids all played together fine. A young girl about 11 or 12 brings another dog who is 18 months old. We introduce the dogs, everything is fine. I pet the other dog along with other kids, who are of all ages from 18 months up to about 12 years and everything is fine. So, one girl is talking to the owner and the dog and reaches to pet him and the dog went off, only missing the bite because he hit the end of the leash. It surprised me and I even yelled "NO" at the dog. She did not correct the dog enough, stayed and it happened a second time the exact same way. These were not snaps and only missed because he hit the end of the leash. I heard no warning growl either. Do you think this dog was acting out of fear or true aggression? I showed the girl my prong collar I was using and said she should think about getting one so as to better correct the dog because it is just a matter of time before he does bite someone. She said that the nylon training collar she was using was enough correction and that at home they used lemon juice when he did this. Obviously this was not the first time. Geesh! And supposedly I am the one with a viscious breed NOT! OK, that's my rant for the day!

My reply is the little 12 yr. old is too young to have a full grown dog, (what kind of dog is it, it realy doesn't matter b/c all dogs will bite) under control around other kids. And because he showing aggression toward kids in his face or near him, he should not be allowed out around kids or in the public until this problem is address without a muzzel.
That's what I thought too especially after I found out this was not the first time the dog did this. It was a basset hound. One thing, in a little town like ours problems like this get addressed promptly by the city. I'm hoping the owners can take care of it before having to put the dog down.
