Went to vet, dog has inflamed/itchy ears, but no infection. He does have vaccinosis aftermath, and does scratch out of stress or boredom.
Okay, I got human grade probiotics, human grade fish oil, and I am going to try to order whatever you tell me to get from this site, or find an equivalent if I can't ship in to the country. Could you, in all your experience tell me exactly what supplements you would feed a 6 month old with a history of vaccinosis and allergies? I would like to get his inflammation down, and itchiness. cared for. He is great on raw, but I do want to cover my bases if necessary. He is 62 lbs.
I bought 1200mg fish oil capsules, 500 live cell per tablet acidophilious probiotic.
The vet didn't call it vaccinosis, but he got a terrible skin infection within the week of both rounds of his vaccines.
She did blood tests and said he didn't have allergies, but from what I understand now, bloodtests are junk. He doesn't seem to have food allergies, I have done elimination with him. I don't think it's fleas, I have never seen one, and it is very cold here. I have checked. I think it's just inhalant, and it's not that bad, I do however see that supplementing is quite popular, and wondered if the dog would benefit. He is on raw now, and doing great.
The vet just looked in his ears and said there was no infection. There wasn't any dischargey brown stuff, he had just been scratching, but was also in his kennel for 4 hours which is a long time for him. So, could have been from boredom, I don't know,... he had however been scratching at his ears all week. He hasn't scratched at all today.
Long story short, just wondering about probiotic supplementing and supplementing with fish oil... how much? I don't think I will be able to ship stuff in, so I;m stuck with what I can get ahold of ... Thanks... Danielle

No ragged edges.... does seem a bit too pink/reddish and he did scratch and make one ear bleed. Looks a lot more like a rash on the skin. No dark inflammation. His sleep is not interrupted. Not itching much today.....
His skin infections were bacterial I don't remember the name of the antibiotic, but it was antibiotcs. No steroids.
http://www.naturemade.com/Products/Supplements/Fish-Oil-1200-mg-Odorless
this is the fish oil I bought...
Haven't bought vitamin e.... here is the brand I can get...
http://www.naturemade.com/Products/E-Vitamins/Vitamin-E-200-IU-dl-Alpha
Vet said that she thought it was from boredom. However, she also didn't recommend raw, and would have continued to vaccinate him even though yesterday, she told me that RAW was the best thing for my dog and that he looked "so much better, and "I feed raw well" hahahahahaha... , and I was "smart to not vaccinate him anymore." WTF...... The american vets I can't get to without waiting for a year (not really) and they are even worse about preaching at me about how I'm going to kill the dog with bones.
So, if I should find a new vet then I guess I will,....

Gotta run out, but can you clarify: the canal in the ear looks pink and nice? All the scratches or redness are on the skin-side of the ear-flap rather than the canal?
The infection: I'm not asking about steroids, but rather yeast meds. So the skin was all bacterial and treated with an oral antibiotic .... right?
The fish oil contains soy and I probably would not buy it again after this bottle is gone, but it's better than many. The E is artificial, but I believe that same company also sells natural (you want d-alpha, et least, and preferably
The same vet said all of this? "However, she also didn't recommend raw, and would have continued to vaccinate him, even though yesterday, she told me that RAW was the best thing for my dog and that he looked "so much better, and "I feed raw well" hahahahahaha... , and I was "smart to not vaccinate him anymore.""
Wow. Maybe she has been learning!

"Looks a lot more like a rash on the skin."
Can you link us to a photo? It sounds kinda like mites.
But maybe Dr. Betty will see this.

Ear mites- classically dark brown tarry goo inside the ear. They are super itchy.
A sample of the ear wax is examined under the microscope and the mites are readily seen. If you are young you can actually see them with the naked eye, -if you take a sample of the ear wax and put it under a lamp, someplace warm, and wait a minute, you will see them move, they are right at the limits of resolution of the human eye.
Scabies mites are on the outside of the ear, the leather. They are not visible(without a scope) Super itchy. Loves the edges of the ear, makes the skin rough.

Ah. Two kinds.
One of mine had the edge-of-flap ones when he came here, and it made the ear edges raggedy. (At first I though it was a superficial folliculitis, but the vet found the bugs with a 'scope.)
They made him scratch at his ears and get the skin on the inside of the flap scratched and red.
He didn't have canal debris; when the bugs were gone (we used Revolution), the scratching at the ear (both the leather and the inside skin) stopped.

but was also in his kennel for 4 hours which is a long time for him.
What kind of a crate does he have? All plastic or wire? This may be off but if he was in a plastic crate, it could be some sort of puppy acne. Is the rest of his face itchy or just his ears.

Wow guys thanks.......
Ear mites huh? Yes, it is just the skin on the flap that appears to have a pimply looking rash that comes and goes as he scratches.
He was treated with oral antibiotics.
I will get natural vit E instead of synthetic.
Okay, so I need to request the vet do a microscopic test of his ears.
He has an all plastic crate, which I had wondered if it is possible that he has an allergy to the plastic, or to plastic materials, because, I have also let him have Kong toys this past week for the first time. hmmmmmmmmmmmm.......... That looks a bit like a trend.
Okay, so, how to feed probiotics, and then I will leave you all alone
