Its not just a busy road, its like a small highway. As it is people are always saying to me "I see you walking that dog all over the place!". They already think I'm nuts for walking my dog that far twice a day.
Imagine what they would say if they saw me out there with a garden shovel in the middle of the walk!
My yard isn't fenced. I let my dogs out with a long line attached from the bottom of the handrail and to the door inside my house. We hook the dogs up and open the door. May want to watch the dog to make sure he does not bite the line in half. A cable could also be used in place of the long line. This is what I do.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that probably wouldn't work for us. You would have to see the set up of the yard to really understand, but part of the problem is that a colony of feral cats live in or between two old garages one yard over, and they come through our yard all the time.
They also hang out under the ground floor porch sometimes.
Its a bad enough problem that I'm thinking about calling the MSPCA to see if they can come and trap them.
The Yorkie next door almost lost an eye to one of them last summer. For me I'm also worried that if my dog got one of them it wouldn't be pretty. Feral or no, if your neighbors see your dog maul a cat it can cause problems.
