Athena, my 9 1/2 week old gsd got her second booster from the santa fe animal shelter spay/neuter and wellness clinic today, the first was given by the breeder. the lady giving the shot told me "in her opinion" instead of the normal three booster shots i should do a series of 5 shots because gsd are over bred. im assuming she means the dam is having to many litters. i am going to email the breeder and see how many litters her mom had....just wanted to get some thoughts on what to do
I would give your pup 1 more DHLP-Parvo, at about 13 wks.Might even give another DHLP-Parvo at 16 wks if he goes to puppy kindergarten, dog parks, places where puppies congregate. I would boost DHLP-Parvo at around 15-16 mos, then every 2-3 yrs. I would give the rabies vaccine when the adult canines are fully developed, boost that again one year later.
How many litters your dog's dam has had is immaterial IMHO.
Your puppy should be dewormed with a broad spectrum oral product 2x 2-3 weeks apart.
The vaccine should be a killed product. Do not use MLV vaccine.
Vaccines are a hot topic, lots of varied opinions. This is the schedule that I used for my dog.
