It was an awesome outing. Jethro and Skipper play this game: I deke Skipper out when I throw the ball and Jethro gets a chance to pick it up. Jethro runs away with the ball and Skipper chases him. Jethro drops the ball so Skipper and pick it up. Skipper brings the ball back to me so I will throw it. Repeat.
My dogs don't drink seawater. One taste is enought to convince them this stuff is not for drinking. But, a dog can get more than diarrhea from drinking seawater. My former roommates Aussie ran on the beach with them when they were horseback riding. It was a hot day and he drank a lot of water. He started stumbling, acting disoriented. Collapsed. This was a while ago, but the vet said dogs can die from this. It's generally when they run hard and just keep drinking the salt water.
So be careful. I think most dogs learn that salt water is not meant for drinking pretty quick.
And I sure love to watch dogs run the beach. Great fun!

This is the first beach outing of many that I have noticed him actually lapping up the sea water. I wonder if it is because this beach is near the mouth of a huge river and there might be a back current of fresh water mixed with the sea water. Certainly it is the first time he has gotten diarrhea from it. I will be more on top of it next time. But Jethro is a die hard puddle drinker. He prefers puddle water to his water bucket. Its really hard to get him to drink water from a container. I'm trying an experiment of catching rain water in a bucket and seeing if he will take that.
