I always thought that pic was awesome Brent -do you happen to have any more snaps of him?
Also, has anyone ever done any DNA testing on their mixes? Is that just a waste of money??
I do have some more pics I'll have to post a few more sometime. However they don't do him justice his foster dad was an excellent photographer and sent me the one below after I got him.
I'd be curious what others say about DNA tests I've heard that they are a waste of money.
I'll guess, but it would help to see some more pics.
Greyhound or whippet because of the brindle coloring
Pitbull because of the face
Maybe lab or retriever because they are very common in mixes.
My shepherd has a black spotted tongue (she's of unknown origin but looks purebred). I'd always been told the tongue coloring meant Chow too, until I did some reading. Seems like it doesn't mean much, almost any breed can have a spotted tongue.
As far as the genetic tests go, I've generally heard they are a waste of money. But if you feel like spending the money, it would be interesting to see what they come up with. One problem is that if your pup is a mix of a mix of a mix, I think the tests don't come up with any pure strain, or will come up with something strange that doesn't reflect your dog's immediate ancestry. Also, many don't cover rarer breeds. Go for it if you want. Let us know. I love the mixed breeds. Fun to try to figure them out.
Also fun to make up names for your dog's breed (eg. my family's first dogs was a Cape Cod Terrier, my first dog was an Alaskan Moosehound- neither are real breeds). It makes more sense than making up a new mix every time someone asks you "what kind of dog is that?"

LOL!!! That's awesome -"Alaskan Moosehound" -I bet people bought it too. I think someone posted on here awhile back that they made up a name like that and some man went back to his wife with, "..see honey? I told you that's what breed that is!" People are idiots....hey, do you think my dog could be part weimer? http://www.flickr.com/photos/hgcoby/sets/72157626212671960/
I think he is absolutely stunning, I have never seen markings quite like his on a dog. He looks even better on that rug!
We used to tell everyone Nico was a Transylvanian hound. I found out later she actually looks like one...we had just made it up to be silly.
I think you could call him a Cambodian Tiger Hound (Russian? Thai?). Those stripes are there to help him blend in and sneak up on the tigers LOL. They were originally bred by the jungle dwelling people to protect their villages and livestock from Tigers.
Hilary,
Shiva is a beauty too! I have seen quite a few pittys with that coloring.
Making up a cool name for a mixed breed totally makes me giggle. I get asked ALL THE TIME what mix Koenig is. I explain he's a Dutch Shepherd, and he's purebred.
People usually look at me like I'm on a power trip, trying to make my mixed breed look cool by making up a fancy name for him. LOL.
(either that or I get 'Oh I used to breed those' or 'I have one at home'.... Uh Huh, sure you do.)
How big is he? I agree with the whippet or greyhound possibilities. But, if he's on the bigger side, the Fila Mastiff (Brazillian Mastiff) has very similar colour brindle. Of course there is also the Great Dane as well.

Yes....but Tenzin is something more exotic...I see the more linear greyhound look that Kiersten mentioned...
Thanks, Jennifer! "Blue" pits became a fad unfortunately and are a dime a dozen...but she has the nice sable overlay and is coming into her adult haircoat now.
Anyway, it's what's under the hood, not the paint on the body -as they say -that matters most!
I'll wait for more Brent pics -can't tell if some of that is the lighting on Tenzin's coat...
Phaedra -awesome new pic!!!
