I've been supplementing my raw feeding with the Thrive Honest Kitchen a couple times a week for a while now. Do the chicken pieces EVER get softened up? - I leave it sitting for longer than they say and it's still hard!

Yes they do.
Michael mentioned that he prepared it the night before and allowed the rehydration to happen all night in the fridge.
Also, are you rolling the plastic bag up tightly after each use? I use a clothespin to keep it rolled up inside the box.

I do miss the plastic bucket with the snap lid, but I understand the move to recycled and biodegradable. I wish I had saved my last plastic bucket before the change! (But I didn't know.)

I am a fan of THK on facebook and they just asked their followers how long they rehydrate, seems like it varied from 3 minutes to a few days for those that prepped a lot beforehand. I personally only feed it once a week or so. I prep all my food the day before, including the THK.
I just recently tried a free sample of THK Thrive. I'm thinking of using it in rotation, for variety, and also to have something convenient to feed when we take the dogs on vacation. It was a very small free sample, probably only a couple ounces, and the thing that surprised me was how superfine, almost powdery, it was. I didn't see anything large enough that I could recognize as a chunk of chicken, either before or after hydrating.
So, since I was planning to ask my feed store to order me a 10# box, I'm curious. How big are the typical chicken chunks in a serving?

The chicken pieces are very small - maybe the size of a large pea, but not round of course. I love using the Thrive in the ways you are thinking of using it!
Boy, I sure didn't see anything the size of a pea! Dry, it looked and smelled like some kind of chicken soup seasoning. But I'm guessing that a free sample of an ounce or so is not representative of a whole 10# box. The dogs seemed to love it, so I am definitely going to order some and will probably feed it a couple times a week. I'll plan to let it rehydrate more than the recommended amount of time.
