The first change I made was about feeding. Previously, he would enter crate and wait . If he was very hungry he might vocalize a little while waiting, paw the side of the crate. It was as though his actions in the crate were making me bring the food. Having to sit and stay the time I prepared his food and put it down in the crate, and came back to release him, that made a change all by itself.
I believe Lauren or maybe Lynne wrote that you don't pet a dog for correct "rank"
things. Stopping the free petting was huge too. At first it annoyed me," What's the point of a dog you can't pet?," I thought.
Once you get the rank right, you can pet him all the time. I do now.
