My dobe Kaiser turned 1 yr old last month. He is not even 26'' tall. I heard that the minimum standard for male dobes is 26''. He is a sweet boy, and I could not have asked for a more even tempered dog, but I was wondering if there is any way for me to make him "grow" just atleast an inch. Also he weighs just 1 kg more than Helga. He is also only just a wee bit taller than her. Helga will be 1 yr old this 22nd and she is BUFF.
Till what age do doberman males grow? His testes have descended , does that mean his growth will stop?
I know I sound vain, but I hope he atleast makes it to the 26'' mark.
My dog grew another inch or so in height after a year and filled out considerably, his testicles descended at 4.5 months old before I got him...I don't have a large dog either so it was a considerable growth spurt. If your boy is just an inch off I wouldn't worry to much yet....
Ram, I'm not aware of any magic growth suppliments, but they might be out there. Are you confident their diet is appropriate?
I think your dog will continue to grow for another year or so, filling out in the chest, shoulders, etc... There was a recent topic on cavaletties and their use in developing better muscle mass as well as a comment on how using a back pack on a dog also builds muscle. Have you considered doing any of these just to beef up your guy?
Genetics is going to play a huge role in this, imho, and he simply might not be programed to get much taller. I know you are going to love him anyway...
I only have GSDs; however, they all continued to grow after they turned 1. With my male (now 10 months), I just wish he would stop growing!!! He is very tall and weighs a good 80+ lbs. My favorite size is one of my females who is 60lbs and about 23/24 inches...convenient, easy to handle, yet still a rocket!
