Ok, so heres the scenario, and this JUST started this week.
14 week old GSD pup from herding titled lines that has been very socialized and loves all the peoplethat dont live with us that he sees regularly has started barking at people approaching the yard, myself, himself and the vehicles when hes in them. He seems to only to this off-leash and I dont have a problen with barking.
Yesterday he grabbed a small child who was teasing him that turned and ran from him..he didnt break the skin and was corrected quickly for the bite ( I was within reach and grabbed him by the collar with a hard no and he seemed to get the point as he down/stay at that point without complaint)
He also is suddenly not receptive to strangers and doesnt seem shy of them just doesnt want to be touched by them and will bark at them the entire time they are within sight ( was gonna work on teaching "speak" to follow with "quiet").
Hes been very socialized, almost daily to new things and people.
As far as the herding goes, i have to be honest, I havent done a ton to control it with our Lab...the lab could use it..hes a spazz but ive made it clear its not tolerated with people and were still working on small things that move fast...squirrels..kids <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
So how do I keep this managed so I dont have an either agressive or fear biter on my hands?? On leash he is fine, but keeping him leashed constantly seems a bit absurd for an intelligent animal when we are a mile and a half from the next house.
PS. wasnt looking to work him in sport dog activities...hes a companion...
any input appreciated!
