Some time ago I was looking for a larger indoor setup and this one looked very practical. Never got it but want to check if anyone is using a similar kennel and what their thoughts were.
I just use a regular crate... I think something that size would give a dog who's kenneled an extensive time a large enough space to feel comfortable going potty. NOT OK, in my house! Plus, I just don't have that kind of room!
Hi Faisal:
I have 3 similar kennels in my (attached to the house and heated) garage. Two are 5 x 10 and the third is a 10 x 10. IME, they are a nice alternative to a crate for dogs who won't use them as a toilet area (meaning they are already reliably house trained and generalize that training to the kennel area too).
ETA: If you have large dogs and use a lighter weight kennel, be sure to secure it to the floor so it can't be pushed around by the dog. My Mals can move a 5 x 10 welded wire kennel pretty far across concrete if they want to!
I would love to have a set up like that in my basement...only I want three of them. I had a friend once who did and it worked great. Only one of my dogs is still crated when we are gone and he doesn't mind it, so I guess I will just continue to dream lol. Would be a great place to give them their raw meaty bones though!
Great inputs, thanks. Will definitely have to anchor a kennel like that to the floor. He is potty trained so most likely it will transfer over to the kennel like Konnie's dogs.
Been using a 700 crate in the kitchen/dining area since he was a pup, so the dog is comfortable there but every now and then I get the urge to get him something bigger!
