it could just be that the dog's system needs a chance to get used to normal food again.
Depending on how long he's been on his own his meals were probably few and far between and very small so anything too large in volume might be what's setting off the diarrhea.
so you guys picked up the dog from the vets tuesday morning and he/she was fine. So i'll assume he/she was given a meal after coming back from the vets, what did she feed on the day back from the vets?
...then Wed. Morning more diarrhea and then your sister put him on the bland diet?
Im just trying to figure out if even after the bland diet there is still diarrhea?
or was it only another episode after he was fed non-bland diet on Tuesday?
How small are the meals?
If I were your sister i would be giving very small meals...like
1/4 cup each time.

Wendy, I was at the ER vet with her. She said she wouldn't fast him since he was so skinny...and even tolder her the next morning that they had fed him kibble through the night.
Connie, What I saw when I was therewas clear and foamy. THis morning, Karen, (my sister), said it was yellowish. Yes, she says yellow fluid, no food and only on an empty stomach. What she's been doing is feeding him several times a day in small amounts. She says he acts like he's starving.
She just told me that he had one normal BM yesterday evening, but the back to pudding this morning. She also said, and his gonna sound weird, that he races out and almost has a humping motion when he's pooping and gets an erection. This may not have anything t do with anything, but I've never heard of such a thing.
Well, he's going to the vet, right?
"She has been feeding him small meals of boiled chicken/rice with a little pumpkin."
What does small mean to her? Do you know? The diarrhea (if based on suddenly larger meals than he's used to) can be triggered even by rice/chicken if the meals are large.
The humping and all that ... I don't know how much importance I'd give that with a dog under so much stress, but I'd definitely tell the vet.
Only one normal poop?

Wendy was typing while I was posting.
I have similar thoughts.
There hasn't really been much history to say yet that he actually has chronic diarrhea.

I really just think this poor guys system got a shock from having no food for awhile to having too much at once.
even though he seems starving, i would do very small meals 4-6 times a day if she can manage.
and im talking the bland diet.
sounds like the kibble might be setting off his upset.
Connie: stop typing my thoughts!!!

THank you ladies.
She has fed nothing but bland diet since Tuesday am. THe vet gave him kibble. I don't know what small is to her...and it's quite possible that she fed him too much since she doesn't have much experience with this. I'm calling her now and relaying your thoughts.
Thanks, again. I will let you know what the vet says at 11. SHe's my vet and I trust her completely.

I know it would be hard to NOT feel sorry for the dog and think that he's starving and want to give him a nice big meal.
hell, i would want someone to do that for me if i had gone without food for awhile.
But its sometimes just too much for them at once.
Plus he is probably a bit stressed too.
slow, small & steady will win the race.
keep us posted, and give her a pat on the back for helping this guy out!!!

Karen called me from the vet. THey said he has colitis. They are going to give him something for his stomach-she didn't know what yet, and they basically said the same thing as you guys about the meals. He has a follow up next week and will schedule an appt. to be neutered at that time. She's decided to keep him if she cannot locate the owner.
THanks again for all the info and help. I was really afraid it was something more serious.
