And why do some dogs have it and others don't? I realize reactivity is not drive, although some reactivity might be the result of frustrated drives, right?
Is reactivity necessarily frustrated drives? Or is it simply adolescence? Ie. fear stages? And then mismanaged fear stages can become lifelong habits of aggressive reactions to certain objects or sensations?

People often mean different things when they use the term "reactive."
My definition of reactive = low threshold of response to stimuli.
What the stimuli are and what the responses are differ. To me, reactivity can be a good thing (the dog gets immediately excited and ramped up in drive at the simple wave of the tug toy) or a bad thing (dog goes into aggression at his slightest perception of a threat). I think most people who use the term reactive to describe a dog are talking about a dog who responds with barking or aggression to things we don't think should be threatening or scary.
IMO, reactivity by my definition is genetic, but can be shaped (for better or worse) within the bounds of those genetics.
