I got a mail coming up at my front door yesterday morning from one of the Animal Hospital near my area.
A year ago, I brought Eva (3yr old now) to this animal hospital for regular check up and they just give her Rabies and DHLPP vaccination without my permission.
and I think that's it.. just annual rabies booster that may be needed for Eva
when I got the mail yesterday, I was a bit shock. I'm not sure if Eva really need the DHLPP, Corona, and.... Annual Exam?
and idk what "Rabies Inoculation" is.. is that the same thing as rabies booster?
Next week, Xena (my 1 yr old GSD) is ready for her Rabies shot.
Do I need to bring this up to the vet and asking them.. do they really need my money...
p.s, I'm not a big fan of vaccination... even if it's required by the LAW
Dogs require rabies vaccination, a year after that a booster rabies shot, then every 3 years a booster, IMO.
The others - DHLP-Parvo/Lepto -- after the puppy series, I give one yearly booster, then every 3-4 years I boost again, until they have had 3 or so shots, then I don't do it any more. JMO.
Your vet suggests boosters for 2 reasons --- 1) because legally there is no protection, if your dog GETS parvo, etc. unless they boost it every year and 2) it gets your dog into the office, where things like fleas, heartworm, diet, ear infections, small tumors, creeping lameness, allergies etc. etc. can be discussed.
You can make your own choices.

I would not give my business to that place. If there is no alternative, I'd have a clear form in the chart about "No vaccinations without owner's written consent" (signed by you and the vet, two copies - one for you).
BTW, many will send those cards or notices pretty much across the board (IME), whether you are on a "give my dog everything every single year" protocol or not.
BTW, no, it's not true that only puppies get Lepto (or even Parvo).
I believe, though (and Betty will know better) that when sudden leptospirosis does happen, it's much more severe in young puppies old. (You'll see in the Dodds protocol other comments about Lepto vax.)
