Melissa, great advice. I have been learning along on this thread with Laura, and appreciate the book suggestion, Control Unleashed, I think I am going to get that one too!
Also, I just want to say great job to all those that have given such great advice here, this forum is priceless to me and I want you guys to know you're all awesome!
Oh Thank you Melissa, it's not easy that's for sure. I love my girl and desperately want to help her. My vet said she's lucky she ended up with me because others would have put her down already or passed her around.
My husband is not thrilled that she has these issues and can give me a rough time about keeping her, so I'm open to anyone who offers good advice that makes sense to me.
There is just soooo much info to read and it's expensive to keep getting training dvds and books.
Thanks for the book suggestion, I'll go look it up. Love the photo of your pups :-)
Joyce, One of your Shepherds looks just like one of my boys I lost last year. They are beautiful!! Good luck to you.
I haven't figured out how to get a picture in my post yet lol

Control Unleashed is also clickers and treats, used to help dogs cope with, and finally ignore : ) distractions from the environment. At the same time, the exercises strengthen your bond with your dog and make training fun.

Laura, you probably already realize this, but marker training is clicker training, without the clicker. So, yes, this would be a good book for you.
The book is due to arrive tomorrow (control unleashed) but I forgot to ask, should I be ordering Ed's dvds for marker training along with the book or do I not need both?
I prefer to watch things in action, but I only want the dvds if they really show the steps I need.

#219 costs much less than most DVDs, and if you can afford it, I'd get both. If you watched those two from beginning to end, you could train many people who call themselves clicker instructors, IMO.
