" And I've been trying to take him with me places so that he starts to see the "car" thing as a good thing. That does stress him a bit right now, too."
"Foster's S/A...first day we came back home, he was barking without taking a breath, it seems. This was the day we had the dogs across the room from each other. The next day, when the dogs crates were near each other, I didn't hear the barking, but he was panting so hard, like I had just taken him running on a marathon. Today, I took a much shorter trip, and he was panting, but not nearly as bad. I have been doing the whole leaving and coming back without fanfare thing so as to not add to the problem. If he is still barking when we are gone, well, that's likely not helping my pup's stress level. I have no idea if he would try to break out of the house, or destroy anything, if left outside the crate while we are gone, and I'm not going to test that one. "
The panting is the foster dog, when you are gone?
Who has the car issue? Foster or GSD?
The description of the leave-taking, etc. --- where is the GSD in this scenario? With you or in the crate near the S/A foster?
Need clarification.

Sorry...
Panting comes from foster dog, yes.
Car issue is my GSD.
Leave-taking, GSD is in the crate near S/A foster.

One thing I will add just for the "GRR" factor...
I had Ruger, my pup, scheduled for neuter tomorrow, and cancelled because of the diarrhea situation. When I told the rescue lady I had cancelled, she responded that a neuter, right now, would probably be the best thing for him. You know, like I should UN-cancel the appointment. Even while he's still having diarrhea issues. Really? Wow. Really? I still can't believe it.

So much to address there ..... ...... but for another thread for neuter (or diarrhea).

Also, I gotta run, but I know you will get opinions about having the pup's crate close to the foster's crate (and the panting, etc.).
I don't think I'd want the GSD (pup) to have to have long periods of this close by.
But there are many experienced folks here who will jump in. Betty W and Anne and other pup experts (and the many rescue experts) will see the thread.

No surgery on pup with diarrhea --- that is a good call IMO.
Neutering is an elective procedure, it should be done when the pup is in good health, mentally and physically.

She's probably working off the whole testicles=dominance theory. I'd honestly think of finding another rescue to work with. Rescues that don't have a sound approach to dog behavior tend to put fosters and the dog already in the home in bad positions and then blame either the foster owner or the dog. Incomplete disclosure of a dogs issues is a huge problem and just leads to a lot of returns but many rescues won't list any restrictions until the dog has been in a stable environment for at least a few weeks.

I agree, but I also think that I am done with fostering for now. It's clearly not the right time for us. And my pup will be better off anyway with more attention and training, and less stress on him. And since I *gasp* BOUGHT my puppy from a breeder...I'm just as evil as my not-so-agressive-dominant puppy. LOL
