Whips can make a peculiar tarry stool, anaemia and weight loss. Whips can be knocked down, not out.
Did you guys check the stool for worms? It's easy to overlook worms in a well managed dog from a nice and well educated owner. Worms are so "Appalachia" that they are sometimes forgotten.
Update: great energy today. Happy, alert, shepherd. Poops were brown logs, with no evidence of digested blood.
Betty- I'll run this by my vet. A re-treatement with Panacur would be easy, and I already have the powder on hand. I could bring in a stool sample on Tuesday.
I remember when she first had whipworm, years ago, she would cycle through (red) bloody stool/feeling fine. It took the vet a while to figure out what was wrong. I wonder...
Either way, a checking for worms is cheap and easy. And with history of high eosonophils, whipworms higher in the GI tract are certainly possible.
I am feeling positive today though, and certainly so is Tess!
I'd kind of forgotten what normal, playful, ever vigilant Tessa was really like. Thinking back, she was low energy for a few days prior to actually showing signs of GI issues. Thanks all, and Betty, I'll talk to the vet tomorrow, but so far things look to be going very well.
I may start a thread on preferred high quality kibble once we're off the rice and chicken diet. I've been feeding high protein sled-dog specific food but I'm not sure it's the best for her.

What a strikingly beautiful picture of your dogs! BTW, I love your sig pics, too! I'm glad to hear Tessa is doing so much better. I hope you do start that thread you mentioned. I would be interested in the subject, as well. For various reasons, I'm having to put off my aspirations to feed raw.
