Hi there, I was just wondering if there is a kind of attachment or even a kind of leash (a leather strong one!) that in case the prong collar fails, at least you will still be attached to the dog via the other collar? This would be for one of my dogs, an Amstaff.
So you are sort of attached to 2 collars at the same time, although you aren't really using your regular collar, just the prong .
Using a back-up collar with a prong is a very good idea and is strongly recommended by the folks at Leerburg. Check out this link here about proper fitting of a prong collar. If you scroll down, you will see them showing/describing the use of back-up collar, which they call a dominant dog collar.
I use a back-up collar that is very similar to this. It is a slip collar, kind of a round fabric material. I have also on occasion used a regular chain collar (choke collar). I believe the back-up collar needs to be a slip type so that the end you attach the leash to is long enough to not interfere with the action of the prong.
