This is the pedigree of one of Keiko's Grandparents (males side). The biggest reason I am posting this is cause I don't understand the pedigree thing. I don't understand how to interpret what is good on this so if anyone could point out the good things I would like that
I don't know a THING about most pedigrees (some horses breeds maybe...)
However a good think to look for is show points or a working history (depending how the dog is bred/what you want to use him for, etc), accomplishments of the sire and dam, grandsire, etc. Health is something I'd look for as well, especially in a large breed.....
What is good in a pedigree and what is bad in a pedigree takes someone experienced in that specific breed that knows the bloodlines and even then it is open to interpretation :-p
With that said, the dogs in red are champions. However, your dog's great-grandmother is an "INT" champion which in the US likely means IABCA ( http://www.iabca.com/ ) which is VERY different than an AKC CH (read: very easy to attain). Your dog's great-grandsire is an international and AKC CH with Best in Shows in one or both organizations.
Personally, for me, I always roll my eyes a little at pedigrees that put CH dogs in red as if to highlight how many champions are in the pedigree (which is often mistakenly assumed to infer quality to the novice IMO). This is just a marketing ploy in my book because anyone worth their salt would rather have the health testing done on each dog highlighted in the pedigree rather than the CH's ;-)
With that said (and a limited knowledge of the breed), they look like nice dogs - certainly handsome :-) Good luck and congratulations on your new pup!
hummm, didn't know that.... Well the pup I have is a quick learner so far. I guess it is hard to tell this early. For me he will be more a pet but still I would like him to learn the basics and a little more. I figure just cause they did not get the title does not mean they were dumb, just that the human did not take the dog to its potential in competition. If I would have known more I could have done better but now I guess I have to start somewhere...Even Zuki was a "first dog" in a way because she is the dog I started learning on. Without leerburg I would would make/have made, so many more mistakes.
Maybe someday I will be able to compete in something. Still have many dog years ahead of me
I was going to mention performance titles as well Will but honestly have never seen one compete in performance events (not saying they don't or can't) so do not know how many breeders actually work this breed. I just googled "bullmastiff performance" and did these dogs: http://www.bastionbullmastiffs.com/page3.html
I goggled some and did not find very many with OB or agility... For Bull mastiffs I don't think it is overly common. When you think agility you think breeds like collies, cattle dogs, shepherds... I am surprised with Keiko, in two days he has really got sit down fast and almost the down! I have worked about 4 times, 3 min in the last two days and he is doing it very well. Fact is that it takes work and time to TRAIN for competition so I would expect very few to chose Bull Mastiff to compete in that way. IMO
It looks like they have done quite a bit with their dogs!
