I have a 1.5 year old GSD. Good prey drive. Will out from back-tie in a heart beat. Has been on intermediate sleeve for a few months. Hits hard..will not out. Have taken slow approach to the out (helper stops all motion, waiting 10 seconds or so, calmly giving out command..having to lift up on collar while repeating the command before he finally outs..praising the out.
Am leery about corrections at this point.
Suggestions
How did you train the out in general? I mean obviously you trained a great out on the back tie, but prior to that, did he have any out at all? And how did you train it?
Out off tug: almost on command, nice
Reward: immediate re-engage, out command then slow calm praise "good out" and slow petting
Prior training: all motion stops introduce out command repeat until release than the praise/pet..he figured out the sooner the out the sooner the re-engagement
