I have two 5 year old dogs (westie & boxer). My schedule has recently changed that requires me to leave much longer than I have previously. First how long can I responsibly leave the dogs in the crates? Secondly I'd prefer not to let them roam around the house but could that ever be an option?

I'm guessing that the Westie has a three- or four-hour max for holding urine? Poop can be somewhat manipulated by adjustments to the feeding schedule.
The free-roam option is 100% individual. Are they left alone now for short periods? Is there any tension whatsoever between them? Have you had them both for a long time? How long?
How long do you have to be gone? If you mean a full-time day, then you almost certainly need a dog-walker halfway through. JMO!
Thanks for the response. Yea we leave them alone now? No tension but the Westie is a bit irritable at times. Meaning that if he doesn't want to play or to be bothered he makes it very obvious. I've had the boxer since birth and we moved in with my wife who's had the westie he whole life (about 8 mos ago).
