One cup of food twice a day does sound like a very small amount for a Lab/Pit mix, but I guess it would depend on what size she actually is.
If changing the food around as suggested doesn't result in improvement in either her weight or her bathroom habits, I would think about having a vet check her for things like thyroid function, diabetes, etc.
Zuki doesn't eat more than 2 cups a day ever. She is half GSD/Lab. And two cups is a max, most of the time it is less. So I can believe that for a lab/pit. Keiko on the other hand eats about 4 cups a day at 3 1/2 months...Can't wait to see what this horse eats full grown!
I would try changing the time of day for feeding. I only feed once a day for my adult dog, easier for doing training and she eats food slow and careful so I don't need to worry about any problems. Not sure if this is the case with Dakota.
Might she now think the bathroom is the place to go because she made and accident than smelled it every time after? She could just be thinking "hey, the people go here".
Just to throw out another idea...have you ever considered a low thyroid issue? I had a super easy keeper that we just randomly tested for thyroid function and she was low/normal. I just modified her diet a bit and never had to resort to meds. Just a thought.
