Not that I recall, or at least not in depth. What kind of behavior do you mean? (I've read about apparent anxiety, detachment, or aloofness, as well as apparent increased affection or interest, including focus on the belly.)
There is a ton of material (printed and online) about dogs' different reactions to what may be either variations in hormones and pheremones (scent) or new behaviors or changed appearance.
Related: Ed has good material about dogs and babies.
My friend is 4 months pregnant and in the last few weeks her Lab has become very clingy and rushing to the door when she leaves for work, the morning routine hasn't changed, i.e. its a handful of treats then 'bed', the dog is coming up for 4 and this is one of the most laid back and happy-go-lucky dogs I have known.
The other thing he does is completely prostrate himself on the floor when she comes home, this is really upsetting for her because she has no idea what is going through his head!
My hunch is it could be a pheremone (sp?) thing, and maybe she is giving off similar scents to a female dog in pup would?? when I had cancer years ago, our then old pointer would run at me and sniff my stomach intently; her dog rests his head on her bump and looks sorrowful!
I will suggest she googles the subject, if only to reassure her this is not uncommon but I thought I would ask the question here also.
It sounds as if the dog, however they do it, is sensing that something is going on. I would just make sure to keep to the dog's routine as much as possible but at the same time start preparing it for the inevitable changes. For example, place a rug or bed in the baby's room and teach the dog to go to it when your friend's in the room dealing with the baby. Get a baby gate and place it in the baby room doorway to block access without blocking sight for times when she doesn't want the dog in the room.
When Donna (wife) was expecting, my older dog Joe changed 100%, he became very clingy to Donna and I mean clingy. When our son arrived, he went back to normal in a week's time. So dogs that are sensitive to this change do go back to normal when the lady gets back to normal (if that ever happens)
