I muzzle Koenig in the car... cause... well.... he's an a$$hole. He's chewed through my seatbelts at least 3 times now! (I drive a tiny little sports car that barley fits my kids, much less a giant dog crate. Have to steal the Jeep from Richard on training days. )
Muzzles sure are easier then a cone. Most of the gals at my work prefer to put a cone on a biting dog if we're doing a nail trim or something. I don't get it. I'd much rather muzzle a dog, and KNOW he can't bite me!

I don't get that either Kelly. As long as the dog is use to a muzzle it's totally non stressful for them to which doesn't escalate any stress involved in the procedure.
OT, but hell, it's my thread. I was getting gas awhile back. Koenig was muzzled and my window was down. A gal asked me if he bites. For simplicity sake, I said yes. Then, she asked if she could pet him. . . WTF?

OK, I needed that laugh after reading the thread.
I'm so sorry Kelly, and I hope that Kylie is doing well.
My girl is sharp and reactive, and I have needed to manage her interactions with my 9 year old very closely. She was raised with him, and he has never done anything to her to cause her to be reactive with him, other than just act like a typical young boy. Didn't matter.
She is what she is, and once I realized that, my expectations of her changed.
If your Dad can change his expectations of Harley and manage him accordingly, they should do just fine. (JMO, of course)
Growing up as a child, my grandparents had a crochety working ranch dog on their property. ALL us kids were told to LEAVE TIP ALONE. Did we? Heck no. We were all bit at one time or another but it was never a question of getting rid of the dog. They just bandaged us up and told us if we minded we wouldn't get bit!!
Now, none of us suffered severe debilitating injuries or scars. I truthfully don't know what would have been the outcome since GrandDad really loved that dog.....
