Bommi has come into heat again. I noticed discharge last wednesday first.
I found a nice male with good temperament and wish to breed her to him.
I have been told that I need to mate the dogs on the 9th 11th and the 13th days ( all three days ) to maximize her chances. Is this so?
What is a good time to breed (morning/evenings)?
Here is the male. He is not in the best of shape.Dont judge me for saying this, but he lives in a slum and I am sure the owners dont feed him well. He also seems to have a bit of eye infection. But Rajapalayams are rare and he seems to have good build and good temperament.

I normally attempt breedings early morning or evening because of our climate. Hot and muggy, which may sound familiar to you. LOL
I usually get at minimum a smear done at the vet in order to pinpoint timing. I have a couple of girls that I would totally miss the breeding if I waited for the typical time.
Probably not available in your part of the world, but the definitive test is a progesterone test. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/progesterone-testing.html
Generally, ovulation will follow shortly after the level begins ot spike over 4.0 (sorry, don't know the units).
However, for the price of the test, you could may well purchase the male.
Ovulation dates can be all over the map. Last time I got mixed up in this the ovulation date was around day 18.
However, males often seem to have a pretty good idea of 'when'.
There is also the cytology smear that you could have done at your vet clinic which is generally far more reasonable in cost than the progesterone. Here is some info on it:
When I did the surgical insemination on Frost, I did the whole gamut of progesterone tests and cytology tests. Frost's progestrone test on the 13th day showed a spike and we inseminated the next day.
This time around Frost was naturally bred twice - on the 13th and 15th day of her heat cycle. I did not do any tests and just relied on the old fashion "she is standing so she is ready" rationale. I find out this week if that rationale worked out for me ;-)
Every dog is different so some might ovulate at day 3 and some might ovulate at day 23. The best way to check is progesterone and cytology but after that your bitch should be able to tell you when she is ready by if she flags and stands for the male.
