So sorry to hear this, Kelly. Unemployment is tough enough for us humans to deal with, but how do you explain it to a dog? And it's extra sad for the kids who were involved.
But I'm with everyone else here. I see new opportunities coming your way soon.
I'm pretty angry right now. The "powers that be" decided not to tell the kids that Drift and I will be gone after today. I am sure the kids will figure it out when they see her crate is gone... I took Drift today specifically so they could have some closure with her...
I offered to come back with Drift when they do get around to telling the kids, but they didn't seem too excited about it...
My blood pressure rises just thinking about what the kids will be thinking tomorrow morning when they see her stuff gone... I would hate to have them thinking we abandoned them like so many of their loved ones...
I want to thank you all for your wonderful thoughts and concern for us. This will open up new opportunites for Drift to spread her love So, maybe I spoke too soon when I said no more Drift Therapy. I will keep you posted on Drift's progress into the world
I was sad when I was first told, but now I am thinking that I needed a break anyway. The dogs will get lots of attention, the horses might even get trained. And my house.. Lord, my house might even get CLEANED!!! Never thought I would see that day!!
And CJ, you and a couple bottles of wine are well worth the road trip!!!

Could Drift and you send them a letter for the teacher to read?

Makes ya wonder how REALLY invested these corp folks are in the best interest of these kids in their care. That is very unsettling & sad. And VERY WRONG! IMO

Kel, I work in the public sector too, serving people (the taxpayers in my case) and yes, the powers that be can be heartless. I’ve even had to do some of their dirty work – “john” ing people… or is that “axe”ing… okay, that’s going nowhere - my feeble attempt at humor. (Sorry John - nothing personal, it just worked.)
Much like the sounds of your situation, it was simply about numbers. What they chose to view as “expendable” is extremely questionable in my opinion but then I also don’t get the big bucks. I am on the front lines though and see the staff that do really make a difference.
Running into them after some time has passed; I’ve seen nothing but incredibly bright futures from the most fortunate turns of fate. I often feel like I’m the unlucky one - why can’t someone make that decision for me. But we won’t go there because I do feel fortunate in the lot I’ve been dealt as well.
In any case, they’ve been working my butt off this summer with very few days off and I have a ton of holidays coming to me. To hell with the cleaning, get that pack loaded up and let me know when you’re going to be here. The wine’s a chillin’!!

Isn't it ironic that the ones in the "helping" profession often are the most heartless in dealing with stuff like this? I once worked at a private psychiatric hospital and they informed an entire satellite office that the office was being closed and they were unemployed by fax.
It was not unusual for program managers to come back from lunch or a meeting and find security in their office with a box of their personal stuff al packed up and ready to escort them to their car.
