I'm not an expert, so please someone correct me if I'm wrong...
At 11 weeks, with mid-day breaks, he may surprise you in the crate.
My pup, at that age, if left in an ex-pen would pee but would hold it in the crate, (at least for a reasonable amount of time.)I bought the ex-pen after watching some of the Leerburg vids, and I did use it, but more for cooking dinner and separating from my other dog...and I honestly didn't use it very often. I found that between tethering in the house, exercising outside, and crate training, there was not much need for it regularly.
Today, my X-pen is outside, anchored right by my patio where it gets it's most use. We grill a lot and are outside working often, so it's become a good place to put the pup when he's not tethered to me.
I would give the crate a try and take him out for a potty break mid-day.
Newman is in his crate this morning. I took him on a walk and he went both 1 and 2 so we'll see what happens when my friend comes over at lunch! Last night we went for a good walk and play, and then he was tethered to me or in the crate.
