I took Kipp and Kenzi for stockdog lessons this morning - finally found a place that was in reasonable driving distance!
I was reminded once again Kipp is an awesome little dog. He hadn't been on stock for 10 months or so. He has drive, work ethic and wants to work with you. He can take correction, learn from it and and get right back to work. He has a tendency to want to work close in to the sheep - not really good because things can blow up quickly as fast as he moves. By the end of today's session he was working a nice distance off the sheep, starting to stop and becoming a team player. It was great seeing good genetics at work!
Kenzi isn't quite like Kipp, but she had better focus than she did 10 months ago, stayed engaged the whole time and by the end was getting in the grove of wearing the stock to the handler. Not quite Kipp's "I am a sheep dog" attitude, but I was glad to see some potential start to show!
