I bought the City Kitty my son had seen it on Shart Tank and it was given the investment. Anyone ever toilet trained a cat? Any advice? I read the directions and you pretty much need to be with the cat 24/7 in the begining so I'm waiting until I have at least a week.
There is a 2 in 1 training program for cats. It addresses toilet training + grooming (shampoo/shower/air dry) in 1 exercise. Definitely worth trying out.
The toilet can be great for giving a cat a bath.
Pour in some shampoo, toss in the cat, close the lid and flush a few time.
You may have to sit on the lid to keep it closed. Just be aware that some of those critters can have a long reach so watch the space between the lid and bowl.
P.s.
This doesn't work very well with little, turd sized kittens!
I should've known better that to ask here...LOL and my dogs LOVE my cats especially my new kitten... My hubby says," I like cats but I can never eat a whole one."
This is an old topic, but I actually started this with our two cats using the Litter Kwitter system. I would not recommend toilet training a cat unless you're really motivated, especially if you have a multi-cat household. It can take months, not weeks, and you have to progress at the pace of the slowest of your cats. Also, don't teach your cats to flush the toilet unless you want a huge water bill. Cats think a flushing toilet is the best cat tv ever!!!
If you're still thinking of toilet training a cat, I'd recommend researching the topic via Yahoo! groups.
As for me, the jury's still out. My older cat has no problems with using the toilet, but the younger cat gets freaked out by the hole. The older cat can urinate and defecate successfully on the toilet. The younger cat will urinate on the litter, but sometimes miss (which means cat pee on the floor--get lots of enzymatic cleaner, you will use ALL of it), and if she has to defecate afterwards, she'll find a corner in which to do so. Apparently this is not unusual behavior. My schedule will change shortly, so I'll not have as much time to spend with the cats, and that's a real problem if you're trying to toilet train them.
So, when it works--and I easily have about another 2 months--it's great not to have to deal with the litter and the utility room smells better without the litter box, even though we're pretty good about cleaning it at least two times per day. When it doesn't, which is common while the younger cat figures things out, I get to clean up cat pee and poo.
